I posted this originally at the Sports-GFX communites I go to. There are amazing sig makers over there, but the more beginning GFXers look up to them basically and trends are being created over there whenever an elite designer posts something with a feature very popular and appealing to the community over there. I'm posting this here because with a community all of us could share, it could possibly be something big...
Now I've been thinking about this during the past week or so, and I thought I'd post something about it. When I really started getting into forums, I started out at communities with a totally different GFX style than the ones we all use today, and there are still a number of those boards I visit today (Some of you may refer to those people as "Those people who use a ton of C4Ds").
Now, some of you who know what I am talking about may have gone to one of those boards and posted your stuff, and gotten back feedback you really did not agree with. You got complaints about repetitive styles, and other stuff you don't really hear at the Sports-GFX communities we are all so used to (o2, psdc, deadly, rover, etc.)
It's happened to me so many times, I always thought they were wrong when they were commenting on my sigs, and I honestly got quite aggrivated at times, because I assumed when I posted a sig at Deadly and I would get people to say stuff like "Nice job, your best! Good effects, nice background!", etc., I could have gotten totally different comments at those completely different boards, and I still do today. I get stuff thrown at me saying I need a new style because my stuff looks too similar, and the stuff we all find visually appealing, they find a way to list several things of what they thing.
Anyways, here's my point. In the past I've been getting upset with what they said and that they know nothing. But what if we're (the ones at this sports-gfx community) the ones who aren't knowing what's really right? I mean, here we all are, following trends of the great elite designers here, and over at the "other boards", thinking we're all "sick" at making sigs. But instead they're constantly throwing stuff out there on what we need to do to improve. Guys, I think we need them.
I was thinking about starting a board, a mix between the two graphics worlds. That way we all could come together and learn from both perspectives. It'd be great for all of us, because there's a completely different style out there we can learn from them, and they can learn from us. If we had 1 board that combined "us sports graphics designers" and "those people who use a ton of c4ds", I have a feeling we can create something great.[/b]
