If you like e-guitar, try John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Tony MacAlpine and Justin Forshaw, he's not famous but I like his music: http://www.myspace.com/shreddershark , Van Halen, and last but not least Jimi Hendrix eh!
These are all guitarists, now bands... eh ZZ top, if you're more into metal try Disturbed and Godsmack.
Aerosmith...Frank Zappa, Bruce Springsteen? Dream Theater.

More funky; Prince, Johnny "Guitar" Watson
Blues: Stevie Ray Vaughn

that's all i can think of atm

Stole all my favorite bands D:<
I would suggest those as well.

And, since that person took what I was going to say, I would also suggest Panic! At the Disco, Taking Back Sunday, and maybe Mayday Parade.

If you like progressive rock, you should try out Porcupine Tree!
Awesome band, seen them live 2 times now and I want mooore ^^

Here's 2 youtube videos of them, doesn't match up to CD quality though.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=fTNO4PBO5Zo&feature=related - Blackest Eyes from "In Absentia"

http://youtube.com/watch?v=sUnAxegUJu0&feature=related - Fear of a Blank Planet from their latest album which is named the same as this track :P

http://youtube.com/watch?v=NY5_nQAPGXY&feature=related - Way out of Here - also from the latest album

[add] Crap forgot to mention Opeth :) Also a great progressive rock/metal band!

Oh man Sylvain, I thought I was the only person who liked Porcupine Trees. Guess not =]

Well I listen to A LOT of music. Here's some select few.

Anyway if you want some chill music that's relaxing and fun to sing a long to. - The Shins "Chutes too Narrow" the whole album is good.

Want something hard you can jam out to. Hmm well - Nirvana "Nevermind" (A Necessity) one of the best albums EVER created.
or
perhaps some - Rage Against the Machine, all there albums are pretty good.

Just some good rock, Queens of the Stone Age "Self Titled." A really good album.

anyway those are some suggestions.
