no you need brushes in photoshop for erasing and what not but download brushes are nubby
magic wand tool makes things choppy and crappy looking but it is very conveniant

Brushes, unless stupid downloadible ones) are the key component to painting which is far advanced.

Custom shape tool is advanced as long as you make them yourself...

Finally, the pencil tool isn't really a noob tool. First, noobs pry don't even know its in photoshop and second, i've seen some amazing artworks with it. ;)

Pencil is honestly useful sometimes. Just because you can't use it doesn't mean it's noob.

Magic Wand has it uses, but it says "noob tool", not "worst tool". Noobs like to cut out directly copied renders from planetrenders (due to being too stupid to save them) with the magic wand to "remove ze blak".
