I usually like starting big when I have enormous stocks. For instance, my halo sig started at 600x225 because my stock was a 1600/1200 wallpaper.

I like a preset size for my sigs... then i judge what stock or render i'm going to use. After I find what one I then pick what type of sig i'm ging to make and then the it flow.

It depends really, I don't have a set way of doing it.
Sometimes I'll start bigger and crop it as I work with it and sometimes I'll use a preset size.

I honestly dont know what you guys mean by starting big when making a sig.

I set my canvas at a size, and make my sig fit it ;)

When we say starting big we mean making the canvas size big then adjusting the actual image size as we go

No I don't. I seem to find that reducing the size of a sig after it is done results in it losing a lot of detail and quality.

Yeah, thats happened to me once :)

Loosing quality sucks :(

I agree with that however i keep in mind that i am going to shrink the image size at the end so make my effects slightly bigger.

I always used a set size until about 1 week ago when i realized that starting big and then shrinking comes out looking really good and it is easy to get a good size at the end ouf it because you can crop unwanted bits and also shrink the size which makes the effects looks small but precise and cool :)

I usually have my preset size and then just adjust the stock/render accordingly. Pretty much the only time i ever scale it down or crop is when im doing photo manips.

Nope, I just choose a size based on the stock and stick with it.
I only ever shrunk the tag size once and found I hated it at a smaller size.

I crop the stockto the size I want and then go.
I never ever start bg and then scale it down later or whatever.

start at double the size you want your final to turn out

that way you can do some crappy brushing and detail work that will look pro once sized down

i always start with the size i wanna finish with, and i just crop every layer [otherwise photoshop tends to lag a lot]
